1916 Rising

In 1914 workers were not getting paid much so they went on strike. They were so angry at Britain they decided to start a rising. They planned to start it many times but something always went wrong. Soon they sent a boat to Germany to get guns and ammunition but the British found the boat coming back from Germany and bombed it. Britain had an idea that they would attack with all the guns they found on board but they just continued fighting in World War I. Ireland was about to scrap the idea of getting freedom because they lost a lot of guns but they didn’t  want to lose the chance. They shot the first bullet on Easter Sunday 1916. On Monday they took over all the main buildings and all the main entrances but they forgot about the River Liffey. A gunboat came in from Britain and bombed. James Connolly got shot in the leg. There was a week of fighting and on Friday Patrick Pearse surrendered. Some of the other leaders didn’t want to stop but it had to be done. Elizabeth O’Farrell went to the British and put up the white flag. They thought they would be put in jail but the British shot them instead. Even James Connolly was put in a chair and was shot. During the rising a man had to feed the ducks and he walked through the shooting and the fighting stopped so he could feed the ducks. In 1922 Ireland got their rights.
