My Confirmation

The week before the confirmation was a busy week, some people had to finish their journals and some people had to get their outfits for the big day. We didn’t get much homework that week either. We were very excited for Saturday.

It was Saturday morning and I woke up at about half eight to get ready. I got dressed, went downstairs, had my breakfast, fed the cats, brushed my teeth and put gel in my hair. After all that I had to wait for about two hours before I actually went to the Church of the Irish Martyrs.

Finally everybody was ready and we went to the church. We went to our seats and sat down. It was a long mass. It started at eleven o’clock and ended at quarter to one. First Fr. Brian called out our names and we stood up, followed by some readings and songs. Then Bishop Philip Boyce anointed us with the oil of chrism and we officially confirmed. The rest of the mass was made up of readings, receiving the Holy Bread and then the Bishop said a sermon.

When the mass ended we stayed and talked for a while. We left and we went to my granny’s house. After that I went to my cousin’s house for dinner. She was making her confirmation too so we all had dinner in the one house. For starter I had home-made soup with bread rolls. All my relatives arrived. After all that I got my pictures taken with my family. After a while I got main course and I had chicken nuggets and chips and for dessert I had cheesecake.

For the rest of the day I played FIFA 16 with my cousins on the PS4. We also got sweets later too. Then I went home to have a good long sleep. On Sunday I went back to my cousin’s house for the leftovers from Saturday and I bought a game for my PS4 with my confirmation money. Overall I had a great weekend and I really enjoyed it.

        My Confirmation Day

On Saturday the 13th of February, in the Church of the Irish Martyrs I was confirmed. I was looking forward to it for a long time and I got little sleep the night before due to so much excitement. When I walked in the church there was still about half an hour or more to go before it started. I got my card of my teacher, and then went to my parents to find a seat. I then went to my reserved seat to wait for my sponsor. I was asked to hand out the confirmation booklets and when I had completed this, my sponsor came and soon after that the mass began.

It was a lovely mass with a lot of interaction from the priest to the candidates. Seán Freeburn from my class read a welcome to the Bishop and this was followed by a reader from Woodland school. Soon after that Aoibhean and Alicia read the readings followed by James, Nadine and Alana along with other children from various schools reading the Prayers of the Faithful .We had the Renewal of the Baptismal Promises followed by the laying on of hands, and then the time came to kneel before the Bishop with our sponsor‘s hand on our shoulders and we were anointed with the oil of chrism.

A lot of songs were sung and every one was asked to join in. The very last song we sang was called ‘Shine Jesus Shine’ and because we all knew that song nearly everybody sang along. After staying a bit longer in the chapel we went home for food. There were presents and cards to open, people to thank, food to eat and a lot of celebrations to be carried out!

I was so happy to receive lots of  beautiful gifts from the Holy Spirit and I think in future if I pray to the Holy Spirit I will become a better person overall.
