My trip to Dublin
I was told a few weeks ago that I was the regional winner of the ‘Someone like me’ art competition. I was so thrilled. We had completed a picture in class after we had talked about all sorts of disabilities. It was all about things that are the same and not pointing out differences. My picture was about my little brother, Iarlaith. He is really fun and always happy and excited. He has Down syndrome and goes to The Little Angels. I was inspired by the abilities that he has. I was saying to him that he is perfect just the way he is. He is really smart and picks up things very fast and adapts to all sorts of situations.
On Monday the fourth of December I went to Dublin for the ceremony. First I had to wake up in the cold and dark because my mum informed me that we were getting the bus. My sister was tagging along as well. I was so excited. We got a taxi from the bus station because mum forgot the map!! At five past seven, we arrived at City Hall. There were tiny burgers, wraps and all kinds of posh food. They were delicious. Half way through the ceremony a celebrity came out to entertain us. He told us all to get up and dance. It was good fun.
I was so nervous when he called out my school. I ran up onto the stage and I got a picture taken with one of the judges. He presented me with my prize, a one hundred euro voucher for myself and a one hundred euro voucher for the school. The prizes were in little golden envelopes. I got a plaque also. I felt extremely proud of myself. After the ceremony, we went to look at the art exhibition. Everyone’s picture was displayed. They were very good.
After the whole the ceremony we went to a couple of shops. We went to Brown Thomas and my sister bought MAC make-up. We were so tired we went to Metro Café. We got the bus back home and it was a long trip. When I got home everyone was patting me on the back and saying ‘Well done’ .I couldn’t stay up any longer because it was already eleven o clock. I went up to my room and went to sleep. It was a beautiful day and I will never forget it.
